After last week’s contest in Trondheim, a sleuth writes, “The VFYW has made me realize that my passport is woefully underused.” Another one can’t stay away from the competition:
Well, Chris, it has been several weeks since I entered, because I have had no clue to even guess a country. But I have been totally energized by some of the entries last week from sleuths who also had NO FREAKIN CLUE. Hooray! I am not alone! So this week, like in The Godfather II, just when I thought I was out, VFYW pulls me back in.
On to this week’s view:
At first glance I was completely convinced this is the Santa Fe National Cemetery from across US 84, possibly with a “dogged out” Cross of the Martyrs in the background. But nothing seems to fit, it all looks too green, and I have to get back to work, so I’m sticking with Santa Fe.
A “long-time Dishhead” runs through more details:
With the vineyards in the back and the multi-seat van in the parking lot, from the abundance of white license plates, the models and size of cars, the temporary COVID canopies in the foreground as was required by Washington rules for tasting rooms, my first impression is the picture is taken from the top of a winery in eastern Washington, possibly Prosser, looking out over the parking lot and the adjoining lodge or motel. Now to look through the over 700 Washington wineries for the right one …
Just a few weeks ago I drove through the same part of eastern Washington, and it’s much more gorgeous than I expected. I saw a massive rainbow there, in fact, just like this week’s view … and now I’m bummed I didn’t take a photo.
Speaking of rainbows, our sleuth in Shiprock is miffed: “This week’s view shouldn’t have been presented — there’s not supposed to be any rainbows in the window contest!” Well, technically the rainbow ban is for the regular VFYW, not the contest. Besides:
This next sleuth sounds like he needed a rainbow this week:
I don’t even allow myself the courtesy of excitement anymore when I think I’ve got one of these views figured out because I’m invariably either A) wrong, or B) about to join the throng of Dishheads who also got it right. One of these days I’ll tap into the magic that fuels the super-sleuths … sigh.
From the superist of sleuths:
It’s always fun to guess how many responses we’ll get for a given view, but as soon as I saw those vineyards I thought, “God help us, the Sideways references are gonna be unbearable.”
Actually Chini has the only Sideways reference in the inbox this week. From our super-sleuth in Seville:
I’m finally back! With work obligations over the last few weeks, I’ve been allotting myself only half-hour to figure out the window and have gotten nowhere. This week was too easy, however. Immediate thoughts were that the view’s either in California or in Italy. The license plates pointed to the U.S., so that was easy. After that, it was just a matter of finding the right wine hotel in California.
‘Tis California. But another sleuth isn’t sure which part:
Almost looks like wine country — somewhere in Napa or Sonoma County, CA? Looks like a Hampton or Residence Inn. Less sure as I type this …
A first-timer to the contest is more sure — but less correct:
