VFYW: The Mecca Of Suburban Movies
For contest #328, you've probably seen this place, even if you've never been.
(For this week’s View From Your Window contest, the post exceeds the content limit for Substack’s email service, so to ensure that you see the full results, just click the headline above.)
Our first entry comes from our UWS super-sleuth from NYC (who is usually further down the page):
I really have no thoughts other than “New England.” You’d think that spire — which seems incredibly tall — would immediately pop up on a search. But no … at least not my searches.
So I’m really just trying to get back into the VFYW swing of things. I didn’t enter last week’s contest because I had COVID. Well, that’s not entirely true. I did have COVID, but I also had zero idea of where that window was. I’m thinking of investing in an electron microscope so I can spot the kinds of clues (that hospital sign!) that others seem to identify with ease. Need to do a cost-benefit analysis ...
Another sleuth provides “a wild ass guess”:
It amazes me how clever these seemingly simple puzzles are. Here’s my very dubious line of sleuthing: based on the variety of classic architecture next to spartan-looking housing units, and then the incongruous modern high-rise, we’re on an American college campus. It’s near the ocean in a temperate but not tropical climate. Of note is the empty — and unprotected! — swimming pool. Based on the shadows, we’re looking southeast and we see evidence of urban areas in the distance.
Which sets me up perfectly for a complete shot in the dark: Charleston, South Carolina. Over/under on the distance from the correct answer is 5,000 miles.
Closer to 931 miles. Another sleuth goes with simply:
Milwaukee, WI. North of downtown. East side.
This week was a breeze for Chini:
This next sleuth nails the right town:
