Our first entry comes from our UWS super-sleuth from NYC (who is usually further down the page):
I really have no thoughts other than “New England.” You’d think that spire — which seems incredibly tall — would immediately pop up on a search. But no … at least not my searches.
So I’m really just trying to get back into the VFYW swing of things. I didn’t enter last week’s contest because I had COVID. Well, that’s not entirely true. I did have COVID, but I also had zero idea of where that window was. I’m thinking of investing in an electron microscope so I can spot the kinds of clues (that hospital sign!) that others seem to identify with ease. Need to do a cost-benefit analysis ...
Another sleuth provides “a wild ass guess”:
It amazes me how clever these seemingly simple puzzles are. Here’s my very dubious line of sleuthing: based on the variety of classic architecture next to spartan-looking housing units, and then the incongruous modern high-rise, we’re on an American college campus. It’s near the ocean in a temperate but not tropical climate. Of note is the empty — and unprotected! — swimming pool. Based on the shadows, we’re looking southeast and we see evidence of urban areas in the distance.
Which sets me up perfectly for a complete shot in the dark: Charleston, South Carolina. Over/under on the distance from the correct answer is 5,000 miles.
